Post-Acceptance Requirements

This information is being provided for planning purposes only.  Upon acceptance, each student will receive detailed instructions regarding how to satisfy these and any other post-acceptance requirements.

Required Immunizations

All students in the MSN program are required to provide proof of the following immunizations prior to matriculation: 

    • Hepatitis B (Hep B) - By one of the following:
      • Serologic testing that establishes immunity through a positive antibody titer
      • Proof of previous adequate vaccination (3 doses over 6 months)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella and Zoster (chicken pox) by one of the following:
      • Serologic testing that establishes immunity through a positive antibody titer
      • Proof of previous adequate vaccination (two doses, four weeks apart)
    • Tdap Booster within 10 years
    • Tuberculosis Screening:
      • A negative TB skin test is required within the three month period prior to matriculation.  A positive PPD result requires a clinical evaluation by a health care provider and proof of a negative chest x-ray.  PPD skin tests are required annually.
    • Influenza vaccine verification must be received by November 1st of each year.  Students may provide proof of immunization or a written declination statement. 

Immunizations are required for the safety of our students as well as those with whom they will come into contact during their time in the program.  For this reason, immunization requirements will not be waived. 

Required Background Check

All students in the MSN program are required to submit to a background check prior to matriculation and results will be shared with partner agencies to determine eligibility for clinical rotations. Partner agencies may deny eligibility for a variety of convictions, including, but not limited to, the following: 

  • Murder
  • Sexual Assault/Offenses
  • Felony Possession/Furnishing
  • Class A and Class B Misdemeanor Theft
  • Fraud
  • Felony Assault
  • Abuse
  • Felony Theft
  • Any Felony involving weapons and/or violent crimes
  • DUI (Felony or Misdemeanor) 

Students who are denied clinical placement by a partner agency due to the results of a background check will not be permitted to enroll/continue in the program.

Required Drug Screening

 

All students are required to submit to a 10-panel drug and alcohol screening prior to entry into the nursing program.  This urine screening will detect alcohol and includes the following:

 

  • Cocaine
  • Amphetamines (speed)
  • Methamphetamines (meth)
  • Metrahydrocannabinol (marijuana)
  • Methadone
  • Opiates (opium, heroine, morphine, fentanyl, hydrocodone and oxycodone)
  • Phencyclidine (PCP, Angel Dust)
  • Barbiturates (downers)
  • Benzodiazepines (benzos, downers, nerve pills, tranks)
  • Tricyclic antidepressants
