Tuition, Fees, and Cost of Attendance Information

As a student choosing to pursue a graduate or professional school degree or credential, it is important to understand the terminology used to describe the financial cost of your academic program.  When comparing costs at different institutions, it is important to consider not just Tuition and Fees, but the Cost of Attendance as well.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition and Fees refers to the amount you pay to cover the direct cost incurred by the institution providing your academic program.  Generally speaking, these amounts are controlled and set by the institution itself.

Estimated Cost of Attendance

Cost of Attendance or Estimated Cost of Attendance refers to the entire estimated amount you could pay out of pocket for your education.  This includes direct costs for Tuition and Fees, as well as indirect costs such as Room and Board, Meals, Transportation, Books and Supplies, and other incidental expenses.  It is important to note that while Tuition and Fees are generally controlled and set by the institution, all other costs included within the Cost of Attendance figures depend upon decisions you make regarding where you live, how you will get to and from classes, and  how much you spend.
